The Soft Escape
The Soft Escape is a celebration of freedom, colour, and the joy of letting go. For me, this work is about stepping away from the constraints of representation and embracing the possibilities of abstraction. Rather than trying to paint something recognisable, I wanted to create a space where colour, movement, and chance could lead the way.
I begin by stretching the raw canvas myself, allowing the surface to remain an active part of the finished piece. Layers of ink, water, and acrylic paint are poured onto the canvas and left to find their own path. Each layer dries before the next is added, creating a dialogue between intention and unpredictability.
What I love most about this process is that it can never be fully controlled. The materials respond to one another in unexpected ways, forming shapes, edges, and transitions that I could never consciously design. Every stage becomes an act of discovery.
The Soft Escape is as much about the creative process as it is about the final image—a reminder that beauty can emerge when we release control, trust the materials, and allow the canvas to speak for itself.
