Last Light Gathering is a contemporary abstract landscape painting inspired by the feeling of standing in the land as the day begins to close. The rolling hills and soft valleys are suggested through layered pours of ink, water and Golden Fluid paint, allowing the colours to move and settle in their own way. Fluorescent orange, a tone that has been emerging more and more in my recent work glows quietly beneath the surface, like the last warmth of sun before it slips away. The bands of plum, coral and gold are not about a specific place, but about the emotion of being there, that sense of stillness, warmth and light gathering before dusk.
